Let's face it, the economy is crazy and unpredictable. It isn't uncommon to find yourself suddenly without a job to pay your bills. While you may have applications out there, the employment game can take forever and leave you frustrated and brainstorming ways to make money on the side while you look for another job. This was me a few years ago because of some health issues that caused me to miss a lot of work – resulting in being let go. How was I going to keep paying my mortgage and feed my kids? Instead of freaking out, I got creative and managed to stay afloat until I decided to start my own business through blogging.
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

As I mentioned earlier, I lost my job and found myself struggling to find ways to make money so I could pay my mortgage and feed my kids. I've never really been one to give up during difficult times but this really brought out my inner Girl Boss! There are so many ways to make money but we have to look beyond the obvious and get creative. Also, it helps get those creative juices flowing – which might cause you to find your true passion and calling – and create your own business instead of working for someone else (that's what happened to me)!
Even if you aren't currently jobless but could just use a little extra money each month, these are some of the ways I brought in extra funds that you might also benefit from.
10 Ways to Make Money When You Don't Have a Job
Do you shop? Of course you do! Why not earn money for doing something you already do? I've been using Ebates for many years and average about $300-$500 per year with them. I don't understand why everyone isn't using it because it is super easy and totally legit! Every time you go to a shopping website, it will tell you what the cashback offers are for that site. This comes in especially hand around the holidays when you might be doing a lot of shopping. You also have the option to link your debit card and earn cash back for shopping in-store (not online). The cashback percentages vary from store to store and you get paid once each quarter via a check that is mailed to you. I so look forward to my quarterly check because I often use it to treat myself for all my hard work! Sign up now and get a $10 sign up bonus! TopCashBack is another program similar to Ebates that enables you to earn a cashback percentage of spending.

2. Swagbucks, Inbox Dollars & Other Surveys
This has to be about the easiest way to make money each month! Swagbucks and InboxDollars pay you for taking polls, watching videos, answering short surveys, and more. I actually have my teen daughter do them to earn her shopping money now that she is in high school and seems to want more stuff lol! Instead of a cash payout, you get paid with gift cards to places like Amazon, Walmart, and others. This is perfect for my daughter because she can get paid out with gift cards to her favorite mall stores. Get a $5 bonus from Swagbucks when you sign up using my referral link! You can also sign up for Opinion Outpost and give your input and opinion for various market research surveys and earn money for it!
3. Start a Blog
Have you considered starting a blog? This one is my favorite ways to make money and one that so many people overlook as an option! Don't get freaked out by the term “blog” because it simply means a website with articles. I started my first blog over 2 years ago and soon realized the goldmine I was sitting on. In less than a year, I was able to generate a 5-figure income with it and each month gets better and better! If you are an expert in any field or are really great at a hobby or craft, a blog can enable you to share that information with the world and profit from it. You can get started for free as a hobby, but if you want to use it for income you will need it to be self-hosted which requires very little investment with a huge payout potential. 5. Affiliate Marketing
Did you know that you can earn money simply by promoting and recommending the products/services that you use? Even better – did you know you can do it using Pinterest (even without your own website)? I earn money every month (actually every day) by recommending products in my blog posts, by sharing on social media, sharing a link with friends, and by promoting on Pinterest. Learn more about Pinterest affiliate marketing in this post I wrote about how to get started. Affiliate marketing is where I earn about 40% of my monthly income!

7. Freelance Writing
Do you love writing? Maybe back in high school, you dreamed of becoming an editor or copywriter but life took you down a different road. You can still realize that dream through freelance writing! Put your writing skills to use by freelance writing for other business, blogs, and printed media. While it does help to have prior writing experience, you can create your own experience by guest blogging or submitting articles to your local newspaper (for free) to build up your portfolio. You could also offer your writing expertise for free to non-profits who often don't have the budget nor the staff to write content for their websites. In the meantime, you can check out How to Become a Paid Freelance Writer for more tips to get you started.

8. Offer Services for Fee
What are you really good at? Is the type of work you are looking for something you can do outside of an “employed” position? Are you great with social media? Small business with small budgets could benefit from your social media skills to help build their businesses. Can you fix things? Find a local job board and offer your services there. Just think of all the things people ask you to do for them and start charging a small fee. If someone else charges for what you can do, why are you giving it away for free instead of turning it into a profitable business? There are so many ways to make money doing stuff you already do!
Break out the lawn mower and offer up your services in the neighborhood! When I first lost my job and was thinking of ways to make money, I started offering to mow my neighbors' yards for a small fee and ended up earning about $40-$60 per yard depending on the size. I live in south Texas where it is super hot and many people prefer to have someone else take on that task so they are more than happy to pay someone to do it. I did this for about 8 months – mowing anywhere from 1-2 yards per day (that's over $200/week). Don't ever discount the value of doing the “not so glamorous work” when you are trying to pay your bills!
9. Teach English
Have you considered teaching English to children in China? VIPKID is an online educational platform that enables children ages 4-12 in China to learn English from American teachers. 10. Sell Stuff
Take this opportunity to do some Spring Cleaning and clear out all the junk that's been piling up in your garage or storage closets! We buy so much stuff that often gets used once then locked away and forgotten about. Spend a day clearing out the clutter and plan a yard sale or offer it up online using apps like LetGo or even Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. You'd be surprised at how much money you can make from simply getting rid of stuff you don't use! I used to do a lot of crafting and had an addiction to hitting up the post-holiday clearance sales. I ended up with an entire room filled with craft supplies for projects I knew I'd never get around to making! When I finally decided to clean out that room, I was quite happy with the additional $250 I now had plus that room was nice and clean!
