How to Make Money With Pinterest Affiliate Marketing
What is Affiliate Marketing?
If you've ever used Pinterest, you know how awesome it is! But contrary to popular belief, Pinterest is a search engine and NOT a social media platform. You can find just about ANYTHING from recipes to DIY inspiration to the latest fashion trends and more. Pinterest users drive a HUGE percentage of the online shopping market. More and more shoppers are going to Pinterest before making a purchase and more often than not, actually make their purchase from the stores that Pinterest directs them to. Think about what pins you've searched for and “clicked through” before saving to a board. Chances are that you ended up on a blog post (or article) with the recipe or DIY instructions or an actual storefront where you could purchase the item on the pin.
First off, let me explain (for those that don't know) what affiliate marketing is. In a nutshell, you get paid by a company (merchant) to promote their products or services in exchange for earning commission on any sales that result from your efforts. There are also a few (such as ShopStyle Collective) that pay per click – meaning you earn a small commission every time someone clicks on your links (regardless of whether a purchase is made. Affiliate links can also be placed in blog posts and shared on social media.
What is Pinterest Affiliate Marketing?
So how does all of this enable you to make money with Pinterest? I read a ton of blog posts about affiliate marketing and most of them said you HAD to have a blog to get approved by the merchants. THAT'S A BIG FAT LIE!! Yes, some merchants do require a blog in order to be approved, but there are tons more that don't. (If you do happen to be interested in starting a blog, be sure to check out my How to Start a Blog Beginner's Guide). By signing up with these merchants, you can promote their products simply by creating visually appealing pins and pinning them to your Pinterest boards. You can earn per click and per sale commissions when someone clicks on them and/or makes a purchase. The best part is – this becomes PASSIVE income!! That means that a pin you make today can still earn you income 2 years from now when you have forgotten all about it!
Getting started is super easy!
- Convert your Pinterest to a business account
- Optimize your profile and boards for affiliate sales
- Sign up for the affiliate programs
- Use Canva to make visually appealing pins (Canva is FREE and super easy to use)
- Insert your affiliate link and required disclosure
- Pin the image to a board
I have a FREE basic course that you can check out which goes over it in a little more detail, including a video showing how to connect your affiliate link from one of the merchants. You can check it out for absolutely FREE.

I just can't believe it took me so long to find this goldmine of opportunity. How cool is it that you earn money basically doing something you do anyway (playing on Pinterest)? Once I heard about it, I started looking for all the free and paid courses I could find to learn everything about it – and there are quite a few out there! I never quite found one that really covered EVERYTHING. Also, many of them were written specifically for bloggers and also charged well over $100!! Most single moms that I know can't afford to spend that kind of money. OR, the basic course was fairly inexpensive, but you could pay more for each additional piece of the puzzle – ending with you investing several hundred dollars by the time it was all said and done. One even offered a VIP course for over $700, which included certain courses she “might” create in the future. I'm like “seriously?”
How Do I Get Started?
