One of the first steps towards Girl Boss Freedom is to get your finances under control. This is especially important if you are a single mom with kids or trying to go to school. Aside from taking a budgeting class, there are many great apps and programs that you can use to save money while shopping for your groceries and just about everything else you might need to buy. You are losing out on much-needed money every time you shop if you aren't using these resources!

SAVE MONEY LIKE A GIRL BOSS
Are you struggling financially? Are you scraping for change between paychecks to put food on the table? It's nothing to be ashamed of!! So many women struggle with juggling work with affordable childcare and many other responsibilities. Don't worry! There are resources and tools to help you get a better handle on your finances so you can better provide for your family. Have you created a viable budget? If not, I'll be providing more on that in the next post. For this post, I want to share with you my Savings App Success Report for the past two months. Why do I think this is necessary? I am on a VERY tight budget. Aside from my disability pay, I do not have my own income. Fortunately, my fiance makes just enough to pay our bills with a little left for a few extras. But emergencies like this recent hurricane can really set you back if you aren't managing what you do have. And don't forget, I also have 4 very large dogs that eat a LOT! So I have tried to master the art and want to share how you can save money while shopping.
SAVINGS APP SUCCESS REPORT FOR JULY/AUGUST
The following is a breakdown of my savings (actually my cash back) for July & August. If you use these consistently, you will earn a nice little pot of cash back and gift cards to use for other needs like emergencies or holidays.

HOW TO SAVE MONEY WHILE SHOPPING
CASH BACK FOR SHOPPING
Discipline is really the key here. Beyond reading this post and saying “oh those are great tips,” you need to sit your butt down with your phone and download the apps, and create accounts for all of them! That is actually the hardest part. Once your accounts are all set up and apps downloaded, the rest is easy. Always THINK before you spend a single penny! Of course, think “do I really need this thing I'm about to buy?” Beyond that, consciously make the effort to check your apps for possible savings. You can either SAY you want to save money or you can actually SAVE MONEY!!
This is my absolute, number one, the first place I check, gold mines for savings! I am still so amazed that more people aren't using this to save money while shopping! Of every resource I'm going to talk about, these two are probably the easiest and most convenient to use. Ebates should ALWAYS be your first stop before doing ANY online and in-store shopping. Sign up for Ebates now with my referral link and get a $10 sign-up bonus! Never heard of them or not sure how they work? Here is a post I wrote talking about how much I love Ebates!
IBOTTA & CHECKOUT 51
Do you shop for groceries? Do you have a smartphone? Then WHY are you not using Ibotta and Checkout 51? You are literally throwing some of that hard-earned money away! As you can see, I earned almost $60 in cash back for July and August from my shopping trips. I don't clip coupons but if you do, you can save even more! As soon as I get home from a shopping trip, I immediately snap a pic of the receipt and upload it to both. It is so simple, yet so many aren't taking advantage of it!
WALMART SAVINGS CATCHER
I tend to do most of my grocery and household necessity shopping at Walmart. You definitely want to download their app to your phone. Why? In the app is the Walmart Savings Catcher. After every Walmart shopping trip, scan the QRC code at the bottom of the receipt into the app. It will check all competitor ads for that week to see if anything you purchased is on sale elsewhere for a lower price. If it is, they will give you the difference – loaded onto a Walmart gift card in your Walmart account. Even though it won't yield huge cash back, that little bit adds up during the course of the year and you may have a nice little pot of money to go with your other savings throughout the year.

RECEIPTHOG & RECEIPTPAL
These are two more apps that I just can't believe everyone isn't using. They are completely free to download and use. All you have to do is snap a pic of your receipts – all of them – and upload them into the app. You rack up points for each receipt, which can be redeemed for gift cards to places like Amazon. Sounds like FREE money for me to use for Christmas shopping!
EARN MONEY PLAYING WITH YOUR PHONE
Have you heard of Shopkick? This is another FREE app that you can download. Basically, you get points called “kicks” for things like walking into stores, scanning barcodes on products, and for certain purchases. It even works for online shopping! I've even got my 13-year-old daughter hooked because she uses her kicks to get gift cards to places like Amazon. This is how she earns her allowance and it doesn't come from the house budget! Sign up for Shopkick now or you can read more about it in my post HOW I MADE $500 EARNING POINTS ON MY PHONE.
