Can you believe 2018 is here? Did you make resolutions or goals for the new year? Do you (honestly) intend to reach them? Or will you get a few months into the year and just continue on as you have been doing the same exact things you always have? The truth is, the latter is exactly where most of you will most like be in a few months. I get so annoyed with “I’m going to try and do better this year” making vague resolutions and goals with no plan or true intention of accomplishing them! What annoys me, even more, is having to listen to people complain – year after year – about their financial or life situations yet they never really do anything to change them! (Spoiler alert – this post is direct and to the point!). Do you want change in your life? Do you want to stop living paycheck to paycheck? Do you want less drama? Then DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT THIS YEAR and create the life you want!
May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

HOW TO CREATE THE LIFE YOU WANT
Poverty is a Choice
Yes, you read that correctly! I’m probably going to receive a lot of negative feedback on that statement but it’s something that I feel very passionate about. While being born into poverty isn’t a choice, staying there is. It’s not your ex-husband’s fault. It’s not Uncle Sam’s fault. YOU are completely in charge of the direction your life takes as an adult. I don’t care who you are or what your situation is, you have the choice to accept it and stay there or make the change needed to have a better life.
True story: I was pretty much born into poverty. We were so poor that I remember my dad going to the local grocery store and digging through the dumpsters to get all the stuff they had to throw away because of expiration dates. Our deep freeze was ALWAYS full of yogurt, snack cakes, bread, and other stuff that he collected each week. After my parents divorced, we lived on food stamps and hand-me-down clothing. I know what its like to be poor! And I started on that path myself as a young adult by having a child at 17 and getting my own food stamps. One day, however, I decided I could do better for myself and joined the military. Now I’m not saying for you all to go out and join the military (some of you reading this are probably over the age limit anyway) but the point is that I did something different. When I left the military I fell on hard times again but managed to pull myself out of it because I knew I wasn’t going to live that life again.

Do Something Different
The first and most important thing to create the life you want is to do something different. That might sound too easy but it really is the foundation of an abundantly successful life waiting to happen. Doing the same thing or making the same choices over and over – how has that worked out for you so far? God has big plans for you but you have to be willing to make the changes necessary to accomplish them! If God put it on your heart (if you are thinking about it) then he also gave you the ability to get there but he isn’t going to just give it to you. My pastor said it perfectly this weekend: “You have no right to something you don’t pursue!” If you want a better job then go after it. If you want a better relationship, then stop going out with the same type of guys (or better yet, give dating a break and just focus on you!). If you want to stop living paycheck to paycheck, then stop frivolous spending (like Starbucks and eating out, make a budget, and start figuring out how to put your skills to better use! It’s not rocket science! Need a little help in laying out your goals? Put Fear Aside
The number one reason that so many people do not go after their dreams is fear of failing. News flash – no one ever got to the top without failing at least a few times on the way up! Failure is the best education because you will learn from experience what not to do! Again, if God put it on your heart, he also gave you the ability to do it. Another (in my opinion) silly fear is the fear of what someone else might think. Basing your life’s decisions on the opinion of someone else is just ridiculous! If your circle of friends (and even family) aren’t supportive of your idea – FIND A NEW CIRCLE! I’m really not kidding with that one! I’ve distanced myself from family and friends because they wouldn’t support my endeavors or constantly ragged on my ideas and decisions. True story – they are still in their situations but mine has improved tremendously! I’ve surrounded myself with positive, goal-oriented people who give me the motivation to take big leaps of faith. By the way, don’t even come at me with “I live in a small town and everyone here sucks.” because there are plenty of people that you can connect to on the internet who have the same goals as you. Do whatever it takes to create the life you want!
THIS IS YOUR YEAR!
You CAN create the life you want and I’m going to make this really easy for you. Seriously! Stop overthinking it and START DOING IT! Enough with the excuses! For anyone listing “not having a college degree” as the reason they aren’t where they want to be (unless you are trying to be a doctor or something like that), you do NOT need a college degree to be financially successful! You can learn just about anything from the Internet (and Youtube). For reals! (Spoiler Alert – there is actual knowledge to be found when you stop following celebrities and gossip news!) So, whatever it is you have a gift for, turn that into a profit by learning from the internet. I have the gift of gab and a lot of life experience. Never in a million years would I have said my goal was to be a blogger. But blogging has enabled me to share my gift with a worldwide audience and pay my bills! I’ve learned everything I know about starting a blog, social media marketing, business, finance, editing html, etc FROM THE INTERNET!The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance - Proverbs 21:5Click To Tweet
Start with a List
What is it that you want to do with your life? What is it you want to accomplish? What are you built to do? What are your gifts? Take those gifts and turn them into profit! If you are serious about making real financial changes in your life, start by listing all the things you are good at. What is it that people come to you for advice or help for? Do you have a hobby that you are good at? Do you have certain life experiences that you’ve overcome? Write them down!!
Do Some Research
“I don’t know how” is not a phrase I respond to very well – especially when the person saying it has a smartphone in their hand! Whatever your dream job/career is, Pinterest and Google have the answer on how to get there. In case you didn’t know it, Pinterest is a search engine and where you will find so much information – mostly written by bloggers and/or business owners. If you listed something along the lines of knowledge (say, cooking or sewing) maybe starting a blog is your golden ticket to success. If having a “brick and mortar” business is more you dream, there many private Facebook groups (yes, Facebook has actual value) designed to empower and support aspiring business owners and entrepreneurs. And maybe starting small (like out of your garage) is the way to get to a “brick and mortar” business.
You’ve waited long enough so now is the time to make it happen. When I considered starting a blog, I researched the details and followed several other bloggers, then just did it. I could have waited until I “knew everything” about blogging, but honestly, jumping right in was more beneficial because I was able to learn as I went along. In less than a year, I started two very profitable blogs and became successful with Pinterest affiliate marketing. A year ago, I didn’t even know what those were! My success has come from me realizing the gift God has given me and knowing that I was created for greatness. You can get there too but you have to be willing to take that leap of faith in order to create the life you want.
