It’s hard to believe this is the end of my first full quarter blogging! I’ve had an amazing first quarter and am just so ecstatic about the progress I’ve made. Although Hurricane Harvey clean-up kept me pretty busy most of the month, I still managed to reach most of my goals AND increase my blog income from my blogs!
But first seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you
You will DEFINITELY want to pin this one!

BLOG INCOME REPORT
Well, I am just over-the-top on how well Girl Bosses Rock is doing in the first quarter! After learning some hard lessons with my first blog, I took a couple of courses and followed advice from a few other seasoned bloggers and am so glad because the investment has definitely paid off! I officially launched Girl Bosses Rock in August and my monthly revenue began increasing significantly with each month. This income report will contain the amounts from both blogs, however, I began focusing more on Girl Bosses Rock and really didn’t write very many new posts for the other one for the rest of the year. Although this report does include income from My Veteran Woman Life, over 85% of this report is income generated by Girl Bosses Rock for this time period. (UPDATE: I officially shut down My Veteran Woman Life at the end of the year because I simply didn’t have time to focus on creating new content. I also began working on launching my own teaching platform to compliment Girl Bosses Rock. )
This data covers the period of August 15th when I published my first post through October 31st. I managed to reach over 4500 page views for the 3-month period! This happened as a result of participating in blogger click through threads. My bounce rate was extremely high (over 78% which isn’t good). I did participate in several blogger reciprocation threads daily which helped with getting the increased page views. (Update: I’ve since realized that participating in the blogger threads every day isn’t a good practice. While it can help get your newly published posts in front of people and help it gain traction, participating in them every day is NOT good for your overall strategy. Not only does it drive your bounce rate sky high, the traffic isn’t truly interested in your content (making it harder to convert your affiliate links.)
Goals for the First Quarter
In starting this new blog, I really wanted to focus on a few things that I didn’t really do with the other one. Specifically, I wanted to
- Grow my email list
- Implement strategies for increasing affiliate income
What I Did Different This Time
As I mentioned, I decided to invest in a couple of courses to help me figure out what I was missing. I just couldn’t figure out why no one was clicking or buying from my links! These courses definitely paid off!
Back in May, I finally decided I needed some professional help in figuring out how to make my affiliate links convert. With the other blog, I was earning less than $200 each month from affiliate income. I just couldn’t seem to get move past that amount each month and it really frustrated me! I’d heard great things about Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing, so I decided to go without pedicures and Starbucks for two months to save for it (quite a reality check on how much I spent on that kind of stuff!). Anyway, I learned SO MUCH on what I wasn’t doing that really would make all the difference in getting my links to convert to sales. The graph below speaks for itself! I began implementing the strategies I learned in the course and the results – well, see for yourself!
Side note: September was a crazy month! We had a huge hurricane (you might have heard of Hurricane Harvey) that messed up things for a lot of folks on the Texas coast and Florida. It made landfall about 45 minutes from where I live in Corpus Christi. Fortunately, bloggers can take their tools with them and work from just about anywhere. Even though we were without power for like four days (thanks to my AT&T hotspot and a generator), I was able to write new posts without any issues! On breaks between cleanup efforts, I managed to publish 6 posts (in addition to the 4 I published on my other blog!).
Aside from participating in the blogger share threads, I also got really serious about using Pinterest to promote my blog. I had no idea the impact Pinterest could have for getting traffic to your website! I came across two courses – Pinterest Ninja and Pin to Profits which helped me understand how to create pins for my posts and how to set up my Pintetest account for success. Once I learned how to create really good pins for my posts, I signed up for Tailwind so I could schedule them to pin to boards throughout the day (Pinterest apparently likes to see consistent activity). By the end of this quarter, Pinterest was sending over 60% of the traffic I was getting to my site!
Aside from my blog posts, I also started using Pinterest to promote direct affiliate links. This was something I really never did before but DANG was that a mistake! I didn’t realize that people actually go to Pinterest and shop from there! I began joining a few affiliate programs for products not related to my blog (like fashion and pet products) and began earning commissions from those pins!
**Update: In 2018 I decided to create my own course to teach others how to harness the power of Pinterest for their blogs and affiliate marketing. Be sure to check out Pinterest for Bloggers & Businesses!

Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing DEFINITELY worth the investment!
How to make money with Amazon Affiliates I credit this training for helping me finally earn commissions on Amazon!
Pinterest Ninja – This was the first Pinterest training I purchased. Not only did I learn some great tips on creating great pins, I’ve already earned back what I paid through promoting it as an affiliate.
Pin to Profits – I finished this course last week and – MAN! I thought I was doing well with Pinterest. While Pinterest Ninja went into great detail on creating great pins, Pin to Profits goes much deeper into when/where to pin. She also really goes into detail on how to make your affiliate sales through pins and other means. If you are using affiliate programs and hope to generate blog income at all, you NEED to take this training. This training is NOT just about Pinterest!
**UPDATED (July 2018):** Blog Income Boot Camp – I decided to create my own course outlining all of the strategies I’ve used in the last 12 months to earn over 5 figures (and growing). If you can’t yet afford the more expensive course mentioned earlier in this post, this would be an excellent 2nd choice! Enroll now at launch party pricing!
